Effective Sample Size in a Dichotomous Process with Noise
نویسنده
چکیده
The eeect of noise in a dichotomous process is studied from the Bayesian viewpoint. Winkler's approximation to the posterior distribution in the presence of noise is shown to break down badly near the limits of its application. Information loss is measured using eeective sample size. An account of the relationship between eeective sample size/information loss and sampling data is given which diiers sharply from that of previous work in this area.

متن کاملSample size estimation in research with dependent measures and dichotomous outcomes.
I reviewed sample estimation methods for research designs involving nonindependent data and a dichotomous response variable to examine the importance of proper sample size estimation and the need to align methods of sample size estimation with planned methods of statistical analysis. Examples and references to published literature are provided in this article. When the method of sample size est...
متن کاملMixture Factor Analysis for Approximating a Nonnormally Distributed Continuous Latent Factor With Continuous and Dichotomous Observed Variables.
Mixture factor analysis is examined as a means of flexibly estimating nonnormally distributed continuous latent factors in the presence of both continuous and dichotomous observed variables. A simulation study compares mixture factor analysis with normal maximum likelihood (ML) latent factor modeling. Different results emerge for continuous versus dichotomous outcomes. For dichotomous outcomes,...
متن کاملEnhancement of Noise Performance in Digital Receivers by Over Sampling the Received Signal
In wireless channel the noise has a zero mean. This channel property can be used in the enhancement of the noise performance in the digital receivers by oversampling the received signal and calculating the decision variable based on the time average of more than one sample of the received signal. The averaging process will reduce the effect of the noise in the decision variable that will approa...
متن کاملEconomic-statistical Design of NP Control Chart with Variable Sample Size and Sampling Interval
The control charts are graphical tools and proven techniques to improve the performance of a process. Usually, the processes are not naturally controlled, so the use of control charts will help to reduce the variability and increase the stability of the process. In the traditional approach, control charts with fix sample size and constant sampling intervals were used to identify the changes in ...
